Here’s the thing. Not to go off on a rant, but your “structure” needs to have “function.” I can’t say this loud enough.

I feel the pain on this one. I work with leaders every day who are overseeing lifeless infrastructure because the people sitting in the top chairs of their divisions have no clear ownership of their part of the mission.

It’s a harsh reality to face as an owner, president, or CEO that maybe the people you delegated and trusted to open up your bandwidth just don’t have what it takes. There are many reasons why this happens, but if you as the leader continue to enable and allow excuses, everyone, including you, suffers.

Carey Nieuwhoff recently tweeted, “If you don’t trust your staff, fire the staff. If you trust your staff, lead them.”

Not “trusting” your team doesn’t necessarily mean that you don’t like them or that they violated trust. It simply means that you have lost faith that they are the right fit for the role.
